Life is not a rehearsal. We only get one shot at it. Every hour that you allow to be consumed by things or people that don't serve your why is an hour you cannot get back. We put our money in banks, we insure our cars and keep them locked in garages with alarms in case they get stolen, so why is it that we don't protect our time with the same intensity? I didn't start protecting my time until I hit my 30s. I didn't waste every moment, of course, but I didn't hold it in high regard, either. Then as I started a family and had two beautiful boys, I began to pay attention. I began to carve out and protect my time. And here's how I did it: I used the tools I already had at my disposal. In particular, my Outlook calendar. I colour-coded regular activities, work, meetings, one-to-ones with my team, time with clients. And most importantly of all, I started scheduling time in my diary for exercise, time in my diary for outings with the kids, socialising with friends. I even diarised date nights with my wife. I started protecting my time, carving it out to ensure I spent it with the people and on the things that matter to me. I encourage you to do the same. Life is not a rehearsal. You get one shot, one opportunity. Make it count. Have an awesome day.
